Week 1 Review

28 Days of Meditation: Part 4

This first week of meditation my goal was to meditate each day for 20 minutes. It’s been difficult to fit the full 20 minutes in each day – it only happened 3 of the 7 days.  Here’s a quick review of the week:

Day 1: Woke up at 5:45am and had to talk myself into getting out of bed. Meditated for 5 minutes and then my son stumbled into our room. I put him in our bed and was able to meditate for 7 more minutes before he told me “You’re taking too long!” so I gave up and went back to bed too.

Day 2: My son woke up at 4:45am but thankfully went back to sleep. My alarm went off at 5:45am and I stayed in bed until 6am. Meditated for 20 minutes from 6-6:20am. Was really tired the whole time.

Day 3: Went to bed late and planned on meditating during my son’s nap time. My son came into our room at 6am and fell back asleep in our bed. I got out of bed at 6:45am and meditated for 20 minutes.

Day 4: Meditated for 20 minutes during my son’s nap time.

Day 5: Meditated for 14 minutes in the morning before my son woke up.

Day 6: Mediated for 10 minutes at the end of my work day before I had to leave to pick my son up from daycare.

Day 7: Woke up late and didn’t meditate at all.

Son at the Beach

For this next week I’m going to focus on meditating at the same time each day to develop more consistency.

I found that my day was positively impacted if I meditated first thing in the morning. I was more attentive with my son. I was able better able to focus during the work day. I was even more patient with my son in the evening. The all day effect is surprising to me and a great motivator to wake up early.

So my goal for this next week is to be asleep by 10:30pm each day so I can wake up at 5:30am and meditate for 20 minutes before my son wakes up around 6am. As you can see from this past week God (and my son) often have other plans for me.
