My Impressions

  • When God departs from Saul he becomes incredibly insecure and troubled.
  • King David stands out among all the kings as the one who truly loved God and sought after Him with his whole heart.
  • It was frustrating and wearisome to read over and over again about all of the kings who did evil. There were so few who trusted God despite how obvious it seems (as one reading the overview that spans hundreds of years) that those kings who do follow God prosper. Then I’m reminded of my own lack of trust in God.
  • Again during a period of chaos and disobedience we see God taking care of the widow (Elijah and the widow at Zarephath, Elisha and the widow with the oil).
  • Some of the miracles of Elijah and Elisha reminded me of miracles that Jesus performs (feeding a lot of people with only a little food, bringing the widow’s son back to life, healing Naaman’s leprosy)
