28 Days of No Sugar & No Caffeine
28 DAYS OF NO SUGAR & NO CAFFEINE: PART 1
The 28 day experiment for September will be no sugar and no caffeine. I’m currently addicted to both and I realize that anything I’m addicted to limits my freedom in Christ. When I’m low on energy, bored, or need a break from work I crave something sweet – usually chocolate. Rather than turning to Jesus with my needs I’m turning to sugar and caffeine.
Jesus said “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other.” Jesus was specifically referring to money but I think it holds true with food as well. I want to be a slave to Jesus and serve Him alone.
I mentioned in my last post that my month of meditation awoke in me a desire to be more engaged with the Bible. I know I’ll be dealing with a lot of cravings, especially in the first week. So anytime I feel a craving for sugar or caffeine I will pick up my Bible and read God’s Word instead.
What Will I Eat?
I’ve been eating primal since March so I already don’t eat grains and very little processed sugar. The most difficult changes for me will be eliminating most fruit, coffee, dairy, chocolate, and honey. I’m mostly following the 21 Day Sugar Detox program.
These are the foods that I’ll be eating:
- Meat (Beef, Buffalo, Chicken, Duck, Pork, Turkey, etc.)
- Fish (Salmon, Halibut, Shrimp, etc.)
- Eggs
- Vegetables (All except corn, sweet potatoes, yams, white potatoes, and squash)
- Nuts (All except peanuts and cashews – macadamias are my favorite)
- Seeds (Pumpkin, Sunflower)
- Animal Fats, Avocado Oil, Butter, Coconut Oil, Olive Oil
- Almond Butter, Coconut Butter
- Water, Coconut Milk, Herbal Tea
- Lemon, Lime, Avocado
- One green tipped banana or green apple per day at the most
These are the foods that I won’t be eating:
- Fruit (exceptions above)
- Grains
- Legumes (Beans)
- Dairy
- Coffee, Juice, Coconut Water
- Anything with sugar, sweeteners, stevia
